OUR AWESOME GOD
There have been a couple of things recently that have given to me a new appreciation for the omnipotence (all powerful) and omniscience (all knowing) of God. Theologically, we know these things but ever so often it's a blessing to have a renewed sense of the awesomeness of God
In no particular order, the first of these 'new revelations' has been the series running on television called "Life." It's unfortunate that this is being used as another avenue for teaching evolution when it's really a testimony to the things mentioned above. When you take out all the evolutionary talk it's absolutely amazing and wonderful to see what God has created. We have probably all heard that the chances of evolution taking place are greater than having an explosion at a printing company that results in a completed set of encyclopedias. I would add to that, fully packaged and addressed to my house. I want to laugh when I hear that mammal's teeth turned into beaks, they grew wings, and their front legs fell off and they became birds. While I want to laugh, those feelings are also filled with some disgust at man's refusal to acknowledge God. I'd like to see what these mammals looked like in between teeth and beaks! How did they survive during that transitional period? As I watch and I see the thousands of species, their hunting skills and defenses, I realize that if one holds to evolution they must believe in the 'printing-shop-theory' a thousand times over. I admire their faith! Too bad it's misplaced.
The second thing that has given me this new appreciation is reading the Genesis account again. I admit it - I hold to six twenty-four hour days. That's also by faith, but I'm OK with that. Check out Hebrews 11:6. God could have done it all in an instant, instead He chose to take His time and do it over a period of six days. In doing so He set a pattern for man to work six days and take one day for rest and worship.
So as I read the Genesis account, I realize all the science God put into effect as He created daily. All the energy, the atmosphere, and the prefect 'tent' for man to live in. "He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in." Isaiah 40:22. He created all the vegetation, the creatures of the sea and the birds of the air (before mammals), all animal life and then at last, man. And in each of these He implanted the complete DNA code needed so each could reproduce after its own kind. What a God we serve! I am renewed and reenergized with the thought of my omnipotent, omniscience God. What an honor to serve Him!
