GOD’S CREATION

“The heavens are Yours, and Yours also the earth; You founded the world and all that is in it.” Psalm 89:11

Marilyn and I have never had the privilege of having our grandchildren live ‘down the road’. At the same time, they have always lived within a few hours driving distance so we do get to see them on a semi-regular basis. I don’t want to brag (ok, so maybe just a little) and I don’t want to start any arguments, but my grandkids are the best. I will give you second place – but mine are the best.

My oldest grandchild (Matthew) has just graduated from High School. As I write this he is in Romania on a mission’s trip with his family. He will be there a bit over a month. He has grown into an excellent young man who is seeking the Lord’s will in his life. He is now looking for a college to attend this fall. A few weeks ago Matthew and I took a week and went to look at four different Christian schools. It was a delight to be with him for a week. I thank God that over the years we have had the chance to spend a few days together from time to time. He is a delight to be around. I remember taking him on a fishing trip in northern Michigan. We were literally sitting in the lake on lawn chairs with our lines cast into the deeper water. I couldn’t have been more relaxed. No phones, no computer, no demands on my time. I was enjoying the wonder of God’s creation. The water was as still as glass, the woods that surrounded the lake were in full bloom, holding their limbs toward heaven. The day was perfect. I was sitting there enjoying the weather and all the peace and quiet when Matt said to me, “Grandpa, you know why I always hated fishing?” I replied, “No, why?” To which he said, “Because it’s boring sitting here waiting for fish to bite.” All of a sudden I’m thinking, ‘why did I bring this kid along?’ None-the-less, we had a great week. It’s always been a pleasure to spend time with him.

This brings me back to our trip out West. Matthew had set his sights on four schools to visit for possibly attending this fall. These schools covered the states of Missouri, Montana, and Wyoming. So, for that week we spent a lot of time in a rented car enjoying the marvelous beauty of God’s creation. The Word of God says, “The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for He founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters.” Psalm 24:1, 2. In fact, the Bible starts with the words, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1. Evolution is the prevailing message of our day. It’s almost impossible to go a week without hearing some reference to ‘25, 50, or 75 million years ago this or that took place’. Evolutionists must do that – all their arguments fall apart without ‘millions of years ago’. Evolution – the foolishness of man. When we traveled through these beautiful states seeing the wonders of God’s creation, we were continually blessed by what we were gazing upon. We knew we were observing the handiwork of God. Romans 1:20 says, “since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities — His eternal power and divine nature — have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made...” The rest of the verse reads, “so that men are without excuse.” When man stands before God in judgment one day no one will be able to say, “God, I never knew You were there.” You cannot look at the beauty of God’s creation, or gaze into the stars at night without recognizing the wonders of God. Psalm 19:1 reminds us, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.”

I want to thank God for how I was blessed this past month. I was able to spend a week with my grandson. We were able to tour four auspicious Christian schools. And I was able to see the wonder of God’s beautiful creation. Praise the Lord!
